5th IOU Webinar On Having a Bird Brain presented by Suzana Herculano-Houzel
When? May 18, 2022 05:00 PM in Johannesburg
Birds have long been poopooed for having tiny brains compared to mighty mammals. But bird friends, rejoice: it turns out that those small bird brains hide primate-like numbers of neurons in their cortices - yes, cortices. This talk will address the very latest discoveries about what bird brains are made of, how they came to be that way, and what difference does that make.
About the Presenter: Suzana Herculano-Houzel
Interested in comparative neuroanatomy, cellular composition of brains, brain morphology, brain evolution, metabolic cost of body and brain, sleep requirement across species, feeding time, and really interested in how all of these are tied together.
